Alternative Solutions and Objective Based Design
Alternative solutions, formerly known as variances or equivalencies, are innovative design solutions
that can be implemented to meet or exceed prescriptive building code requirements.
Canada and many other countries have moved towards objective-based building codes, allowing greater
flexibility in building design while ensuring building integrity. LMCI can develop alternative solutions
on the basis of objective-based codes.
We offer innovative solutions using state-of-the-art technologies and materials. Our principal Leszek
Muniak has been honored within the industry by receiving the 2009 Wood Champion award for his creative
methods of championing the use of wood as a construction material.
Sound design from specialist expertise
LMCI's excellent reputation for sound design is built on several factors:
- Over 20 years of real-world experience on projects varying from large-scale healthcare complexes to modest office renovations
- firm grounding in industry and building code requirements and interpretation, including recent revisions
- familiarity with technological advances in building materials and fire protection systems
- flexible teams assembled to meet every project’s unique needs
The future of modern building design
Today's building designs and upgrades often encompass multiple uses. Prescriptive building codes may not allow
technologically advanced solutions to a facility’s unique requirements.
LMCI can work with you to satisfy the intent of code requirements with innovative, evidence-supported
alternative design proposals.
Outstanding building designs evolve when fresh ideas for construction challenges are realized. With your vision
as our goal, LMCI can help you put your project in the vanguard of innovative functional design for residential,
commercial, industrial, healthcare, or mixed-use projects.
