Life Safety Studies

Protecting everyone in a building when a fire breaks out is a key goal of the fire and building code requirements applied to buildings in most jurisdictions. When an existing building cannot easily be upgraded to meet specifications, LMCI conducts a life safety review to develop alternatives, presented to fire officials as a Life Safety Study.

Expert review includes specified components

Qualified LMCI's consultants create the life safety document based on a detailed review of your building. A Life Safety Study normally includes at least three components, as specified by the authority having jurisdiction:

  • a list of items that are non-compliant with relevant regulations
  • a proposed solution detailing how safety goals can be achieved
  • a specific timetable for implementing the proposed solution
  • if applicable, interim measures to be put in place for life safety

Computer models support application

LMCI uses empirical and quantitative methods of analysis including, where necessary, computerized fire and evacuation models, to develop equivalent approaches that will meet building and fire code objectives. Through site visits, code analysis, and our extensive experience in life safety applications, we document compliance items and areas requiring alternative solutions.

Follow through to final approvals

With your agreement on the proposed solution, LMCI can present your building’s Life Safety Study to the relevant authority for approval.
