Product and Material Evaluations
New construction products and building materials can be a welcome addition to the marketplace, but their
role in compliance with building and fire code requirements must be verified and documented to the
satisfaction of regulatory bodies.
Structural and finishing materials
LMCI specialists are equipped to evaluate a variety of materials, including the following:
- construction material
- building products
- interior finish materials
Canadian and international standards
We can facilitate testing which covers a number of characteristics and can compare test results with
international test standards, where Canadian, American and European differences are relevant.
If a new product or material doesn’t meet code specifications, LMCI can propose alternative
solutions to meet the intent and objectives of the code requirements.
Submission for compliance acceptance
Once testing is complete, we prepare the required documentation for submission to the authorities
regulating the product or material type. For example, in Canada, we present findings where appropriate
to the Building Materials Evaluation Commission (BMEC) and/or the Canadian Construction Materials
Centre (CCMC).
LMCI's knowledge with national and provincial code requirements and interpretations makes us an
ideal agent for testing and validating product and material characteristics.
